Project Controls Specialist
Our client is a leading chemicals organization seeking a highly skilled Project Controls Specialist to support the successful delivery of capital projects. This role plays a critical part in planning, budgeting, scheduling, and reporting, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration across engineering and construction teams.
Responsibilities:
- Project Planning & Execution: Develop and implement project controls plans integrated into the Project Execution Plan (PEP). Establish cost and schedule baselines and monitor progress.
- Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with project engineers, construction teams, and contractors to ensure timely execution. Coordinate with turnaround teams to align schedules.
- Financial Oversight: Assist in developing annual capital and expense budgets. Track expenditures, review contractor invoices, and report variances and KPIs.
- Risk Management: Support risk register reviews and mitigation planning. Address schedule deviations and propose effective solutions.
- Reporting & Documentation: Deliver integrated project progress reports using Earned Value analysis. Ensure timely weekly and monthly reporting.
- Portfolio Oversight: Maintain a comprehensive list and schedule of active projects. Collaborate on project assignments and closures.
- Team Leadership: Provide direction, training, and coaching to the Project Controls Team. Act as a key advisor on SAP and project control best practices.
- Continuous Improvement: Develop templates, procedures, and dashboards (Power BI). Maintain historical cost databases and lessons learned documentation.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of project controls experience, preferably in downstream projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or 15+ years of relevant experience for non-engineering degrees).
- Strong analytical, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Projects, Power BI, SAP, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience across all project phases: engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up.
- AACEi certification is a plus.
