Fantastic opportunity to join a purpose driven, not-for-profit organisation operating in the pensions and investments space, with a focus on ESG and Responsible Investment initiatives.

My client is now looking to hire an experienced Communications / Media Relations professional, ideally with experience and understanding of the pensions and/or investments space

Reporting into the Head of Communications, you will work as a member of the media and communications team delivering key communications objectives in addition to providing specialist media support to the organisation

Your role will be varied including proactively identifying PR opportunities, including news to feature items promoting the values and work of the organisation.

You will coordinate incoming media requests and provide communications support to external facing initiatives as well as identifying news in internal meetings that can be shared externally and bringing communications ideas to the team.

Main Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and exploit PR opportunities including news to feature items, promoting the values and work of the organisation
  • Stay ahead of the news agenda by proactively updating the website, identifying news in internal meetings that can be shared externally, and bringing communications ideas to the team.
  • Work across the organisation including working with the Responsible Investment team, CEO, Board, Chief Investment Officer and Director of Strategy to support and deliver their internal and external communications requirements
  • Coordinate incoming media requests for interviews, photo calls, PR support, events, etc. Provide communications support to external facing initiatives working closely with the senior stakeholders
  • Production of materials for targeted sector specific media. Respond professionally and accurately to media enquiries from news organisations and individuals. Monitor press coverage and distribute to internal contacts.
  • Record incoming enquiries and help maintain the financial media database with key media contacts.
  • Build relationships with key financial and specialist journalists. Work with the digital communications team to support social media presence and updates
  • Overseeing and supporting website production and updating the website.
  • Work closely with stakeholders on the creation and publication of key documents such as the Stewardship Report and Annual Review with the Senior Media & PR Officer
  • This will include working with internal stakeholders, collating and editing content, working with the design agency, and managing budget.
  • Carrying out any other duties within the communications team as required.

Skills and experience required

  • Experience working in a media relations / PR / corporate communications / journalism role-experience can come from the private sector or not-for-profit
  • Knowledge/experience of the Pensions and / or Investments sector (or financial markets) is preferred (from an agency/in house or journalism background)
  • Interest in / understanding of ESG / Responsible Investments would be an advantage
  • Strong writing skills and ability to write well for non-technical audiences.
  • Experience of working with print and broadcast media.
