The focus of the role is to create and implement media relations plans that raise awareness of expertise and showcase thought leadership both on a national scale and within specific sectors.  As well as proactive media relations this role is responsible for identifying areas of risk and devising plans to safeguard the firm’s reputation.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Liaise with Business Development Managers and Executives; Internal Communications Executives; relevant
  • Practice Group/Sector Heads, PMLG Priority groups and international offices, Business Development
  • Researchers; Professional Support Lawyers; Information Services.
  • Working with partners and Business Development Managers, devise and implement media relations plans to raise awareness of the firm’s brand.
  • Working with partners, spot and follow up on opportunities for news stories, op-eds, thought leadership and market comment.
  • Write, manage and co-ordinate the distribution of news releases, feature articles and other materials that will promote and explain the business to clients and potential clients via the media; and  to follow up on
  • these as appropriate.
  • Identify and establish strong working relationships with the firm's key journalists, seek out new press contacts and maintain a record of the firm's contact with key media.
  • Develop a wide network of internal contacts and sources.
  • Handle media inquiries quickly and efficiently in line with firm policy.
  • Make arrangements for regular media briefings, originate preparatory materials and background briefs for spokespeople and write briefing notes for the press.
  • Organise and run media training for spokespeople and organise media events.
  • Monitor and evaluate press coverage and recommend ways to improve it.

For this role you should be degree qualified and ideally have or be working towards a marketing qualification.  You should have previous experience of working in PR, either agency or in-house and ideally a knowledge or interest in the property, real estate or construction fields.  You will need to demonstrate that you can write persuasively and compellingly and 'ferret out' news from legal specialists.
