Turning rescued food into goodness
Carter Murray and their valued clients cooked up a storm recently to deliver goodness to people in need.
Taking part in a Cooking for a Cause event at food rescue charity OzHarvest, the budding chefs used rescued ingredients from Woolworths, Harris Farm and herbs from the OzHarvest garden to produce Gozleme, Falafel, Red Lentil Kofta, Freeka Salad, Chicken Tagine and Potato Curry. They even made their own Turkish Bread!
The result was over 250 delicious and nutritious meals that were delivered to the Street University in Liverpool, which supports disadvantaged youth in the local area.
“Thank you for inviting me to Cooking for a Cause. It was an inspirational and extremely enjoyable evening,” said Sheree, Marketing Director at KFC. Other Carter Murray clients and colleagues who have given their time generously include; Johnson & Johnson, McDonalds, Optus, Sheridan (Pac Brands), Meridian Lawyers and SAI Global.
As a nation we waste four million tonnes of food each year which ends up in landfill, yet two million people still rely on food relief every year and food relief agencies are not able to meet demand.
Founded in November 2004, OzHarvest is the first perishable food rescue organisation in Australia collecting quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivering it, direct and free of charge, to 600 charities providing much needed assistance to vulnerable men, women and children across the country.
